CRISIS VECTOR Digital Editions are here!

Posted on March 24, 2020March 24, 2020 by Erik Radvon

CRISIS VECTOR has gone digital! The current COVID lockdown is a bummer, with many of us around the world sheltered in place. I hope you all are staying home and staying healthy. Going out for comics is on hold for the time being, so I’ve made CRISIS VECTOR #1 and #2 available as digital editions…

CRISIS VECTOR Reviewed at COMIC BOOK YETI

Posted on March 19, 2020March 19, 2020 by Erik Radvon

Howdy all! Hope you are doing well, staying isolated, and feeling healthy in these strange pandemic days. Speaking honestly, there have been peaks of occasional worry bordering on panic, a numb sense of disbelief, stretches of boredom, and a million things in between. I think have a newborn here certainly adds to ol’ emotional workload….

Love in the time of Coronavirus

Posted on March 15, 2020March 15, 2020 by Erik Radvon

I’m not sure when I first caught the news of the novel coronavirus, now called COVID-19, but it was early. It was a back page kind of story, relegated to science and health column or international news sections. What struck me immediately was the scale. “Wuhan, a city of 11 million…” the articles would flatly…

Daybreak

Posted on February 3, 2020February 3, 2020 by Erik Radvon

I sit here on the cusp of what can only be called some major shit. Tomorrow, my wife and I check into the hospital to begin the modern medical procedure known as “birth.” It’s been 9 impossibly long months in the making, with the day of arrival a white-hot point of focus leading us on…

In shops now – FAMOUS MONSTERS #291

Posted on October 5, 2019October 5, 2019 by Erik Radvon

Terror Begins at 40! I had a lot of fun covering ALIEN in the new issue of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, on stands now. ALIEN is an incredible blend of old school cinematic parlor tricks and a relentless sense of new…a truly unique movie with a rich 40 year history. It’s hard to imagine pop…

This Week in Comics – September 14, 2019

Posted on September 14, 2019September 14, 2019 by Erik Radvon

Few days late getting to my comics this week. Light week, with just two books on the stack. POWERS OF X #4 “Inferno.” The HOXPOX train keeps on running, smooth as a Swiss watch. This week’s entry returns us to the POX portion of the story and takes us to Bar Sinister, home to many…

This Week in Comics – September 5, 2019

HOUSE OF X #4 “No more.” HOX #4 picks up right where things left off in last week’s HOX #3. Together, it’s an X-Men adventure for the ages. An Imaginary Story, perhaps? (aren’t they all, as Mr. Moore reminded us). Doesn’t really matter- it bleeds feeling and character and high-stakes sci-fi impossibilities on every page….

This Week in Comics – August 28, 2019

House of X #3 – “From Sticks to Bombs…” It’s the sixth part of the all new, all different X-Men, and it’s another perfect issue. I guess Hickman was pretty serious about this. Homeboy’s created a language, flowcharts, evolutionary cycles, multiple timelines- and that’s just the bonus material. In between this Tolkien-meets-Akira lore stuff is…

POWERS OF X #3 – Honestly, tell the truth now- did any of you see this coming? I know Jonathan Hickman has a resume that includes universally-lauded runs on creator-owned work, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers. I know he said he was going to completely reshape the X-Men universe for years to come. I…

This Week in Comics – 8/14/19

Powers of X #2 – It’s hard to believe the relaunch of the X-Men is just four weeks old. In short time, the dual-series reboot collectively known as HOXPOX (House of X, Powers of X) has rocked the funny book world. Each issue has given us so much to process, experience, fawn over, and obsessively…

This Week in Comics – August 7, 2019

Kicking off a new series on this blog, writing about the comics I pick up at the shop each week. There’s so much good stuff coming out right now, my brain is all itchy with that unmistakable desire to write about comics! So here we go. HOUSE OF X #2 – It’s so awesome to…

Available now: PROS AND (COMIC) CONS

Posted on June 5, 2019June 5, 2019 by Erik Radvon

I have a piece in the new anthology PROS AND (COMIC) CONS from Dark Horse Comics and Bedside Press. My lil essay “A Lonely Place of Trying” delivers a stream of consciousness look at the mind of a writer (me) hanging in Artist Alley at comic conventions. Short version: It’s a weird experience. This is…

THE PHANTOM MENACE: The First Movie of the 21st Century

Posted on April 22, 2019April 22, 2019 by Erik Radvon

It was released in 1999, but in many ways STAR WARS EPISODE 1: THE PHANTOM MENACE stands as the first movie of the 21st century. It cleared the path for an entirely new way to produce movies, and fought against enormous headwinds from an industry entrenched in a byzantine system of inflexible and expensive analog…

Our guinea pig decade

Posted on February 27, 2019February 27, 2019 by Erik Radvon

Our guinea pig passed away this week. She was 10, which is ancient for a guinea pig. Google tells me the average life expectancy is 4-8, so she well exceeded that. She fought hard and was relatively healthy and normal right up until her final afternoon, but alas, the reaper man finally came a-knockin’. Ten…
